Licence plates are the primary and mandatory identifier of all vehicles, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) software has a wide range of applications.
How does ANPR work?
ANPR works when your CCTV camera captures video footage of a vehicle’s registration plate. You can then choose to store the image and review it later. Alternatively, it can be run through our analytics software, where it will be compared to a database of stored registration plates.
We can set up your system to perform a certain action (such as raising a barrier) if it finds a match. Alternatively, you can choose to receive an alert to your email or mobile phone.

ANPR for parking automation
One of the main applications of ANPR is parking automation. This is proven to be a cost effective and reliable way to achieve control over parking spaces. It’s used in many locations such as shopping centres, supermarkets, gyms, industrial estates, hotels, council run car parks and more.
Each installation of Centurion’s CCTV with ANPR is tailored to create a bespoke parking solution that meets the needs of the individual client.
We can cater to a wide range of requirements, setting parameters to the ANPR that allow for:
Permit only – The details of approved vehicles are loaded onto an approved list.
Staff only – Staff registration plates are loaded onto an approved list.
Free parking for a limited time – A maximum stay is set, and you will receive an alert for any vehicle that stays longer than this.
Parking only at set times – Receive an alert if a vehicle parks outside of these times.
Parking only allowed/not allowed after business hours.
Enforce reserved parking spaces.
ANPR for access control
Is your business’ vehicle barrier operated with a pin code? Pin codes often get passed around and abused, meaning that you’ll need to change it. Then no one can remember the new one for a few weeks and the whole cycle starts again.
If you use swipe cards to operate your access barrier, you run the risk of these being lost, or not returned by staff when they leave your company.
Any of the ANPR functions of parking automation can be used in conjunction with our other access control products.
For example, we can programme the software so that an access barrier is triggered to raise when a known vehicle is identified. Vehicles can also be restricted to pre-defined zones.
You can remove or add vehicles from your access list so that only those you are happy to be on your premises are permitted to enter.
ANPR to prevent tailgating
